From California - A new study on 270 urology patients shows that robotic teleconferencing may be as good as face-to-face post-surgical assessments. Half the patients had a physician-controlled robot capture vital information through video and audio. Complications and patient satisfaction were similar in those who received post op care with the robotic system as compared to the traditional method. From Pennsylvania - Research comparing the mortality rate of over 130,000 psoriasis patients to controls showed that those with the condition had a 50% higher death rate. While a mild form of the condition was not associated with increased risk of death, those with the severe form died an averageof 3.5 to 4.4 years younger than those without it.
And finally, from Atlanta - Having your voice box removed if you have cancer of the larynx appears to be more effective than radiation or chemotherapy. Research evaluating over 7,000 patients with laryngeal cancer showed that those who received chemo had a 30% lower survival rate compared to those who had surgery to remove their voice box.
