º•º Beyond Toxic: A project by Storm º•º
Bayview Hunters Point residents live next to an abandoned Navy shipyard,a sewage waste facility, a PG&E power plant and many other toxic wastesites including one superfund site. This neighborhood houses low-income families that are exposed to pollution, poverty, asthma and cancer.Women under 50 in Hunters Point have twice the rate of breast canceras women in the rest of the city. Most impacted are the 12,000 residents who live East of Third Street.approximatley 70 percent are African America and 15 percent of asian descent.Photography, editing and video by:

my mom grew up in west point for 10 years and just found out she has 4th stage cancer.she lived there in 1980 and moved the day i was born in 1990. The cancer was a surprise to her because she just found out recently this year in june.my mom always feared she would be next because of the toxic waste she lived around year after year year.she's now 39.
