diplomacy worked. the inspectors were on the ground doing their job. bush pulled them and launched a poorly thought out pre-emptive strike. offense? against iraq or al qaeda? every intelligence agency has said the war has increased terrorism worldwide and is a recruitment tool for jihadists. where is osama bin laden? who are we fighting?

it is your fault you did not have health insurance. Instead of blaming everyone else, blame yourself and your poor actions. The government is not there to protect you from your own fuck ups. We spend more on defense than anyone else which is the reason why we have the best of the best and all innovation in the world comes from the US.

As I am sure you remember we had been trying diplomacy in Iraq since the gulf war with Saddam routinely violating cease fire agreements. But not to get off subject, without increased intrusion into our private affairs I don't see how any government could prevent an attack such as 9-11 or the London bombings. Would you embrace a more "big brother" approach? Since I assume you are against the "offense makes the best defense" approach.

Let me point out that we spend more on defense than all other countries on Earth combined. Yet that did not keep us safe on 9-11, nor has it allowed us to win in Vietnam or Iraq.
Maybe we should use diplomacy and - as a last resort - smart military engagement instead of huge payouts to defense contractors?

Those are some great statistics you had on hand there. We would still be paying for health care AND bombs. We'll always have a military that ain't gonna change, and I don't know about you, but I don't want to be a sitting duck for some terrorist or megalomaniac dictator.

Actually if you want to talk about bloat - Medicare, which is the government run health-care system only uses 2% of its budget on administrative costs whereas insurance companies spend upwards of 20%.
Plus we're already paying for it every month in the form of premiums. It also costs business a ton to cover their employees. This way it would come out of taxes. Money we spend on bombs would be spent on ct scans and pills. Sounds good to me.

I'll agree that our health care system really sucks and never having been through such trying events I really can't empathize... but universal health care is NOT the answer... your STILL paying for it! Except you will have a bloated management system, like it always is in the government, sucking the money out. Lets FIX what is broken in the system and innovate some better ones, not turn it over to our government.

Massachusetts worked for years on a universal coverage health care reform plan (effective 7/1/2007). If you can use a Mass address and file Mass taxes (you deduct taxes paid to another state) I think you should be able to sign up for it. You cannot be refused for a health reason. After holding (any) insurance for 6 months, they are not allowed to deny payments because of a "pre-existing condition". The non-subsidized plans are as low as $222/month for an individual. mahealthconnector. org

So sorry to hear about your medical horrors. A friend I know has had cancer, and I see how hard it is for her family to pay. Stay healthy and lets hope something gets done soon!
